This book was my first book of 2022, and I couldn’t have asked for a better start! I did watch the movie years ago right after it came out so I had to read the book, which turned out to be ten times more entertaining (and emotional).

When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.

The book may be about a middle school kid with facial deformities, but it’s mainly about kindness and courage. The whole book has tons of heartbreaking incidents, but an equal (if not more) number of heartwarming ones. I was on a constant loop of laughter and tears throughout the book.

The writing had such an innocent child’s perspective and totally got me wondering bout certain choices we make as adults. Also how easy was it making friends in school? :’) The story is narrated not only from the protagonist Auggie’s perspective, but from people around him too, which was pretty insightful and shows us how people around him felt too, giving us a deeper connection to the other characters.

Always try to be a little kinder than necessary.

It’s not just the capacity to be kind, but the choice of kindness.

Overall the book is super wholesome, filled with some quotes that will stick with me for a lifetime. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for a good heartfelt read, just be prepared to cry/bawl okay?

Happy reading. 🙂
